Musing on Stockpiling Thin Mints.

Musing on Stockpiling Thin Mints.

I have two rules I live by….

1. Never walk by a Salvation Kettle without dropping something in..

2. Never say “No” to a Girl Scout selling cookies.

I was a Girl Scout. Back then our uniforms looked something like this….

Obviously a new Scout. Why? No badges....

Oh…Elizabeth Traylor. I used to secretly compete with her in badge count and cookie sales.

Elizabeth always won. But I do remember going door to door to reach that elusive 50 box sale plateau.

I would sell 50 one year. Elizabeth would hit 75.

The next year I would knock on so many doors my hands were left bloodied to write 75 orders.

Elizabeth..sold 100.

Not that I have any residual issues or anything.

But when I saw the gals from Troop 13112 on the Square this morning selling, I had to pull over.

How could you not stop for some one so cute?

First, my husband likes the Trefoils. Then everyone likes the Peanut Butter ones (around here at least.)

$3.50 a box these days.

When we sold them they were .75 then one year they raised them to $1.00.

Got to love those moms who serve as Leaders.

My mother and Elizabeth’s mom did one year. That was an interesting camping trip. Mom found a scorpion on her cot and a Pygmy Rattler on the way to the bathroom.

So I loaded up with cookies boxes and drove to Chick-Fil-A to pick-up up some breakfast.

More adorable Girl Scouts.

And more great moms.

Okay…Rule Number Two. Trefoils had to be bought.

The seat beside me in car. Guess good if I get hungry.

The sale lasts till March 13. In Madison, the girls will be out the next few weekends. Look for them at the Chamber (next weekend), Chick-Fil-A, Walmart and Lowes.

So for the next few Saturdays have cash on hand.

I better go make room in the freezer.

ah I had that uniform! and I knew not to cross over Winter Park Road to sell cookies because y’all had that neighborhood covered…

Remember when peanut-butter cookies were called “savannahs”?

Remember when the Trefoils (shortbread) cookies had sugar crystals sprinkled on top?

Remember the lemon creme filled sandwich cookies? Where did they go?

When I saw that uniform I died laughing. I had forgotten the belt. And the hat. But the hats got ditched early on. They do have some type of lemon cookie but both groups said that those were the slow movers. Thin Mints and Samoas were tops.
