Dancing in the Fairy Ring.

Dancing in the Fairy Ring.

We had to have a third of our house cleaned out today to prepare for the demo for our renovation adventure.

This included emptying a refrigerator, cleaning out my closet and moving a fish tank.

Two days this week, I have employed a very dear, organized friend to help me complete all these tasks and more. By today.

If it had been up to me and my organizational skills, I’d be standing a corner staring into space humming Take Me Out to the Ballgame about now.

A few before pics. As in before the remodel.

Taking a break from all that emptying the rooms work, I received yet another text from a friend who drove by and saw the fairy ring of mushrooms in our front yard.

That’s when my friend, Diana, said we needed to go dance in the fairy ring.

I didn’t want to go dance in the fairy ring. But then I thought maybe that’s just what I needed to do.

So we did.

And then we came back inside and cleaned out my refrigerator.

Feeling a bit more special.

  1. I think dancing in the fairy ring was a PERFECT thing to do… and I wish I’d been there to see in person 🙂

Wish you were here to dance with us Julia. It’s still out there this morning — but a little tired. Kind of like me. 🙂

I love that you celebrated your clean out success in the fairy ring! I could use a friend to help me clean out this house in the 4 weeks I have left. I can’t wait to see the end result of your remodeling!

First of all, I LOVE the chandelier hanging in the old kitchen. Please tell me you kept it, because it looks original. I hope you are going to put it back up.

Second, I have never heard of a fairy ring of mushrooms but I am so glad you did your dance, I bet you felt much better.

    Good Luck! xoxo tiffani

Thanks for reminding Tiffani to tell our contractor to save it. The house is 113 years old — so there probably wasn’t a kitchen when it was built. I think that light must have been hung in the 70s when they did a remodel of the kitchen — judging by what wallpaper is under the paint. I had a friend who moved away who always LOVED it. I am toying with hanging it in our new bathroom.

God be with you Ilene. Moving is rough. But the good thing is that you clean out all the dead wood. Give away, sell or throw away. That is reinvigorating.

Please send your friend to me ASAP. I moved six months ago and I’m still in boxes!

    LOVE it!! 🙂
I bet just getting that closet cleaned out was invigorating!
At least I’m sure IT feels better. 🙂

  9. Jerralea says:

Yes, you definitely should keep the chandelier!

I had never heard of a fairy ring before but I think it is excellent that you danced inside it – and have a photo to prove it.

God be with you during remodeling. It is an exciting and equally frustrating time, but so worth it!

Jane, I tell are all the time she has a gift. A gift people would pay for. She needs to look into the professional organizers group.

  11. Jamie Miles says:

Jani – you need to dance in the ring before they wilt away.

  12. Jamie Miles says:

Thanks so much Jerrelea. I know it will be tough but worth it.

  13. Sounds like a lot of work! I think dancing in the fairy ring was the perfect addition to the afternoon.

The fairy ring is awesome and definitely dance worthy.

I recognize the old trim, doors and hardware as a real deal This Old House. We renovated a Queen Ann in the 1990s. Now we live in a 1930s Colonial and oh, how I miss details like I spy in your photos.
