Falling down the rabbit hole.

Falling down the rabbit hole.

Hello. Does anybody hear me?

Yes, I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole — or through a worm hole. We got home from our vacation to having our house look nothing like our house. They have completed most of the demolition for the remodeling to start.

Walking into our dusty shell of a house felt like creeping a bit on the moon.  There is no air conditioning, no kitchen or no bath — no water — just like a dark, dusty hole in the ground.

For the time being, my family moved to a in a 700 square apartment out back. With no internet. Today is the first day, I’ve made it up to the command module — my little makeshift office. An upstairs room in our house that is shut off from the mayhem downstairs that also has a window unit.

This space also is the new home to my printer and the only space we can get internet access. So it’s a little easier to breath up here.

Just checking into to say I am alive and that I have found a lifeline to the online world. Hurrah.

Here are a few photos from the beach last week. I’ll post pictures of the demolition on the house tomorrow.

How are things in your world? My world is great — though a bit upside down at the moment.

The beach. My favorite place in the world.

I agree completely Dan. The only trouble is that I can’t read the darn print. Makes me crazy.

  2. Those photos are amazing! Wish I could be there right now. Also, I’m very envious of your renovation. Dust now but soon beauty! Nice to catch you on your lifeline, Jamie!

It’s funny Julia. There’s always that last morning when we are packing up to leave, that I’m like “sniff sniff” — I hate to go. And dusty is a very good word. I am very dusty right now.

    You’re BACK!! Welcome home. 🙂
I’ve been observing the demo from afar. Yay for ‘old things are passed away’.

Love the photos and love the beach.

Yes Jani. Happy to be back. I’m getting my sea legs with this new living arrangement. 🙂

    Gorgeous photos!

I hear you about the dust. Been there and done that. I was forced into it, but in the end it was all good.

I also had to do without internet when we rebuilt after the flood (except at work). It is definitely one of the worst parts.

But, I have every confidence you will emerge from the remodeling stronger in every way, and filled with new inspiration for posting!

Jerralea, I think we already will be closer as a family after living these few weeks in such close quarters.

So glad you have those beautiful images of the beach still close at hand. You might need to reflect back on the peace and contentment of those days as you go through this remodeling project!

Moving and renovating at the same time . . . :/ That’s pretty brave.

When I was growing up, we actually lived in a barn for a year. My parents were building a new house on acreage and the old house sold faster than they expected. There wasn’t time to get the house completed before we had to move, so they made a living space in the barn instead.

It’s something your family will always remember.

Those pictures of the beach are beautiful. I think I would be tempted to pitch a tent there.
